Whitney Buhr

Whitney brings more than 13 years of experience in Alberta’s energy industry, with a career dedicated to Indigenous and community engagement, sustainability, communications, and community investment. She is currently with the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC), a provincial Crown corporation that facilitates Indigenous investment and equity ownership in major projects across natural resources, transportation, telecommunications, agriculture, tourism, technology and healthcare. In her role, Whitney leads a team of engagement professionals and works closely with First Nations, Métis communities, industry partners, and government to create trust-based relationships and enable transformative, multi-generational partnerships. To date, she has supported more than $1.2 billion in successful and potential Indigenous equity partnerships.

Whitney holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Victoria, where she focused on Indigenous history in Canada. Her time living in the Stó:lō community of south-central B.C. shaped her approach to engagement and inspired her lifelong commitment to reconciliation.

Throughout her career, Whitney has witnessed the evolution of Alberta’s energy sector toward deeper, more collaborative partnerships with Indigenous communities. She is proud to contribute to this transformation—helping ensure that natural resource development creates shared prosperity and lasting benefits for Indigenous groups, industry, and communities alike.
